The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continues to promote food safety education in communities. Recently, “2024 Food Safety Fun Day” was held for eight consecutive days in the atrium of Nova Mall in Taipa, attracting the participation of over 9,600 members of the public. The activity helps participants learn about food safety knowledge and skills in their daily lives in a relaxed and interesting way through booth games, exhibition and guided tours, etc.
“2024 Food Safety Fun Day” was held from 13 to 20 June. Booth games such as “Food safety tic-tac-toe", “Slide to safe key temperature” and “Stick to smart purchases” were set up on site to help participants learn about the correct storage temperature, how to make smart food purchases and other food safety knowledge and points to note in their daily lives that are often neglected through playing games, so that they can prevent foodborne diseases together. A food safety exhibition and guided tour are also available on site. Food safety personnel explain principles of food safety practices such as cook food thoroughly and separating raw and cooked food and food safety points to note when travelling to the public, so as to increase their ability to prevent food safety risks.
As the summer holidays are hot and a popular time for travelling, IAM especially reminds the public to pay attention to their personal, food and environmental hygiene when travelling. In addition to patronising reputable and hygienic food establishments, the public, especially children, pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised persons, should avoid consuming high risk food. If they experience bowel discomfort such as diarrhoea and vomiting after consuming any food, they should seek medical assistance promptly.
IAM has launched the “Food Safety Information” dedicated webpage on social media platforms including Wechat subscription account, Facebook page and Instagram account for timely dissemination of information on food safety, popular science, policies and training, etc. The public are welcome to pay attention and follow these accounts to obtain the newest food safety updates.
