To promote food safety through training courses

To raise public awareness of food safety, the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) organises publicity and promotion events and activities through a variety of channels.

With the support from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), during 2013 there were lectures on food safety for participants in food production and cooking courses for young people. It is hoped that, through integration with practical exercises, the lectures can enhance students’ food safety knowledge so that they can apply it in their daily life. There were 14 such lectures from January to July 2013.

Domestic helpers are the food safety gatekeepers of many households. With the aim of reducing food safety risks, IACM cooperated with the Women's General Association of Macau to deliver lectures on food safety during their domestic helper training courses, aiming to raise domestic helpers’ food safety awareness and encourage them to apply this knowledge in their daily household duties. From January to April 2013, there were two lectures for domestic helpers.

To raise food safety awareness in the catering industry, IACM continues to cooperate with the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) in promoting food safety. Lectures on food safety related to receiving and inspecting food deliveries were given for the participants attending the vocational training courses for the catering industry organised by FAOM. The participants were reminded to pay attention to important issues during receiving deliveries, avoid purchasing parallel imported goods, conduct careful inspections, and retain documents and receipts, to protect the rights of the industry and the safety of consumers. Two lectures for the catering industry were given in March 2013.
