The Food Safety Department of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has set up the “Food Information Station” to facilitate communication between the food trade and the general public of Macao. It is made up of two areas, i.e. the food trade zone and the exhibition hall. In the food trade zone, interactive display screens, giving information about the Department’s structure and functions, as well as its monitoring tasks from food import to market surveillance, are installed in the area for public’s knowledge and to provide greater transparency of food safety regulatory activities. Hygiene guidelines for the trade are available in the area, where interested parties can also register for electronic notification service to get hold of food safety information conveniently. The exhibition hall has chosen cow’s milk, a drink which is often consumed in everyday life, to be the theme of the exhibition to highlight the food safety concept of “From farm to dining table”, which in turn extends to five major topics, such as food and health, global food issues, etc. Through the exhibition, it is hoped that visitors will get to understand that different stages of process in the journey of food “From farm to dining table” are connected and interrelated. It will take our collective participation and action in securing food safety.
“Food Information Station” is free entry, and the opening hours is from 10:00am to 6:00pm (closed on Monday and Lunar New Year holiday). Students and residents are welcome to join these tours. For school or group visits, please call Food Safety Hotline at 2833 8181 to make the reservation.
The Food Information Station is indeed a showcase of the joint cooperative efforts between the government, the food trade and the public at large. To enjoy safe food, we have to work together to ensure food safety in Macao.
