Is it legitimate to use clouding agents as food additive?
It is legitimate to use clouding agents as food additives, which form or maintain a uniform emulsion of food. They are usually added to sports drinks, fruit juice or fruit jelly to produce cloudy effects. The plasticizer-contaminated clouding agent incident which happened at the end of May this year was due to some manufacturers using plasticizers in place of other food additives to formulate clouding agents in an attempt to reduce cost. The contaminated clouding agents were then widely used in processing other food, which become plasticizers-contaminated in return.
